Flex Your Poker Muscles

February 17th, 2010 by admin

When you play online poker or at regular poker tables, you’re stuck in one spot for a lot of time.  What a lot of people don’t realize is that they can actually keep themselves sharp by exercising during the game.  Not only do they help your physical health, but exercise helps reflexes, endurance, and keeps your mind sharp and focused.  We’re going to go over some basic exercises you can do in a chair while playing.

Isometrics
By playing your muscles against each other, you can get quite a lot of work done without moving much at all.  Start with your left leg and pace it on the outside of the front left chair leg and push inward, holding it for a five count.   Release and repeat it five times total then do the same with the left leg.  If you’re playing at home, you can do the same with your arms: push against the arms of your chair on each side for five counts of five.

Leg Lifts
You’ll have to be in great shape to lift both at the same time for long periods, but left your right leg up about five inches slowly and steadily for a twenty-count and then do the same with your left.  It’s a good way to keep your blood flowing and keep your ass from falling asleep at the tables, which I happen to think is a very good reason to do them on its own.

Abdominals
My back generally starts to hurt around hour three at the tables and it’s always when I’ve got a good streak going.  What I do is try to move my back into the chair by just using my abs.  I hold for ten seconds, relax for five, and repeat it.  Generally, I can manage ten of these at a time and I find my back feeling much less sore.

These are just a few suggestions of how you can keep your edge by keeping the blood flowing.  The more blood you’re pumping, the more gets to your brain, the sharper you’ll play!  Try these and see if your game improves.  It’ll take sticking to it, just like any other exercise plan, but you shouldn’t be surprised when you find yourself playing longer and being able to concentrate on the game at hand more.

Poker Time is Anytime

September 1st, 2009 by admin

Got the poker itch?  It may just be time for you to play Texas Holdem, your old time favorite, or other poker games online!  Learning to play the game is simple; learning the strategies and mastering them is a skill.  The most important strategies to keep in mind can be the simplest ones there are to learn!

First but not least, learn your hands!  The pure knowledge of the poker hand rankings inside out before placing your bets can be the key to many of your wins.  Of course, that’s an easy one.  Next, you need to know when to raise and when to call.  The non strategic way would be to raise when you have a good hand and call when you have a decent one.  However, you can also use the raise option to get the player with the best hand to fold, to bluff, to get more information, or to just get a free card.  Strategic reasons to call?  Simply do so to avoid a re-raise in the game, or just minimize the loss in your online poker game.  Possibly, your intention in calling could be to see more cards.

If you’re new to playing the games of poker, try some free poker to at an online casino where you can usually find all different types of poker games.  Play poker online in low limit tournaments for practice as well, so you get a feel for the real thing.  Poker online is simply the most accessible way for some great practice!

Free casino doesn’t mean shortage of choice

November 19th, 2008 by admin

Just because you have decided to play (perhaps for now) in a free casino that doesn’t mean that you are tight, or that you are somehow lacking in adventurous spirit.  It is certainly not the case, especially when you consider the great games available at many a free casino:

•    Slot machines – traditionally an activity that requires feeding coins into a slot, but thanks to the wonders of modern technology you don’t have to enter a dime to enjoy it.

•    Blackjack – current thinking would suggest that as Blackjack is in fact, such a cerebral game, easy to learn but tricky to master, playing in an online casino is a superb (and cost-effective) way of picking up tips and skills that can be utilized later on when it comes to playing for money.

•    Roulette – maybe this is the kind of game that the naysayers suggest is representative of how a person gambling in a fee casino will behave differently from when they are playing with their own money.  Whether that is fair or not, you have ample opportunity to test your nerves and predictive skills in a free casino version.

•    Poker – hugely popular and again relatively easy to learn, though much more tricky to master.  Bring your poker face to a free casino, get your apprenticeship in and by the time it comes to gambling for money you will really be hitting your straps.

As you can see, free casino really doesn’t mean shortage of choice.

Backgammon Board Games Are Good For The Family

November 9th, 2008 by admin

If your family is like mine, board games are a great way to spend a family night together.  My family likes competitive strategy games; our favorite is backgammon board games.  Because backgammon is a two player game, we either play in teams or with two boards’ tournament style.  There are many variations of backgammon as well and you can find some backgammon board games that reflect this, which makes it fun to try different variations on different nights.  Of course, we generally stick to traditional backgammon, it just creates less confusion.

Backgammon really is a family game though.  You can play it fast or slow and, unlike trivia games, it doesn’t bring out contention.  We have a very competitive family and the kids can get testy with things like trivia games.  Plus, backgammon is so easy to learn; even if a friend is over they can learn to play easily.  And, what makes it even friendlier is that backgammon board games are cheap.  A typical board with pieces costs around $10-$15 although you could spend way more for super fancy leather cased boards.

Not only that, but backgammon is great for the kids, it really make them think strategically and critically and although they may not know it, that kind of in depth, think it through thought process will help them in school and life.  I highly suggest trying out backgammon board games if your family likes family game nights.  Playing backgammon is a lot of fun, cheap, easy, and your kids will get something out of it.
